AMEX extended warranty protection buys a new laptop

This is truly a heartwarming story.

A laptop stopped working a mere 2 weeks after the 1-year warranty had expired. Compaq wasn’t willing to budge on the 1 year mark, but since the laptop had been purchased on an American Express card, which has extended warranty protection, they would take care of it. The customer just had to take it into a shop to be diagnosed, fax in the report and receipt, and since they were giving a full refund on the computer, the computer itself. They even covered the cost of the diagnosis!

Within a month they were given a full credit for the original cost of the computer, plus tax, so they can buy a new computer.

It pays to shop with a credit card when making big purchases.

  2. I agree. The crazy thing is I know about the extended warranty, but I don’t think it would have occurred to me if my laptop had died like that. The extended warranty is only useful if people remember it.
