a day in history

I’ve recently begun reading Reference.com’s On This Day. It helps improve my knowledge of history and it’s fun to see what happened on certain days, like April Fools’ Day, Christmas and US Independence Day.

However, there’s another way to use this type of site to make your blog timely and informative. Here is what you do: Look up a date a few days in the future to find out what happened. Pick one of the events and write an entry about that event, then publish it on the day it happened.

I bet that’s what news programs do, because they always seem to have stories about things that happened on that day a number of years ago.

Here are a few other sites with events that occurred on a certain day.

MSN: On This Day
The History Channel: This Day in History
Biography.com: Born on this Day
IMBD: On This Day
The Library of Congress: Today in History
InfoPlease: This Day in History
BBC: On This Day
440 International: Those were the Days
Fact Monster: This Day in History
Scope Systems: Today in History

  1. I think Reference.com’s site is cool – but I wish they would make it look more appealing, instead of just “Times New Roman”, flush left.

Apply some styles – get with the times… :)

  2. Matt: I agree, but if I had to choose, I would pick content first, then a slick design.
