sites to ping

I tried using the new service that offered one ping to rule them all at Ping-O-Matic but for some reason it consistently returned errors. I posted a comment asking about it and got no response, so I have returned the list of sites. However, I wanted to make sure I was pinging all available sites. I found Jake and Neil’s posts quite helpful in that area.

I now have a total of nine entries in my Movable Type notification configuration (Weblog config -> Preferences -> Publicity / Remote Interfaces / TrackBack). I find that blo.gs usually times out and weblogs.com does occasionally, but even with the time outs it doesn’t take that much extra time and it’s worth it to me for the additional traffic.

Here are the entries I’m using:

1. Recently updated key
2. blo.gs (checkbox)
3. weblogs.com (checkbox)
4. http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/
5. http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
6. http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
7. http://www.mod-pubsub.org/kn_apps/blogchatter/ping.php
8. http://xping.pubsub.com/ping/
9. http://ping.rootblog.com/rpc.php

  1. Wow, you’ve got everything I’m pinging and then some! (I’m pinging blo.gs, weblogs.com, Technorati, Blogrolling, and Rootblog.) What’s that My Yahoo ping you’ve got going? I’ve heard about their RSS offerings but I haven’t really looked into them.

  2. You can add nearly any RSS feed to your My Yahoo page according to Jeremy’s post.

I just tested it and was able to add my Atom feed to My Yahoo and see this very post on the My Yahoo page. It’s pretty slick.
