rot13

While working on a brain teasers in a community on Orkut a few people were nearing the answer, and others were still working on it. Instead of posting the correct answer in plain text and ruining it for those who were still figuring it out, it was posted in rot13 format.

It reminded me of my childhood when we would write something in lemon juice, then give it to someone else who would hold it up to a light to read the secret message. I think it’s a slick way to make sensitive information available, and of course, I had to try it:

V org gung fbzrbar bhg gurer vf pncnoyr bs genafyngvat ebg13 va gurve urnq. Vs vg’f lbh, V’z vzcerffrq.

  1. We use rot13 all the time on LambdaMOO, mostly on discussion lists about current TV shows and movies when people might not want to see the spoilers.

  2. Wow, LambdaMOO is still around? I’m sure my account there has been long since reaped. I thought for sure one of those petitions to close it would have passed by now. How’s the lag these days?
