BMW’s M12

Before today, I never knew that BMW made an M12. I just checked their site and found no mention of it. I found out about when I was reviewing a site submission to the X Personal Homepages category and found some pictures (that he may have yanked from another site).

Wow. That’s one mean-looking car.

  1. A mean looking car indeed. I found a little more info about it here

Apparently it was a 1990 concept car, and has a v12 5L 300hp engine, which isn’t terribly impressive by itself. It must have a pretty light chassis, though, since it goes 0-60 in just over 4 seconds. Also, it looks kind of goofy in the straight profile shot.

  2. Hmm, that looks almost exactly like a lamborghini; I wonder if BMW borrowed the design.

  3. A lot of the late 80’s/early 90’s supercars look like that. My favorite of the bunch, and one I’ve had the great pleasure of seeing in person, is the Jaguar XJ220. I think it looks better than the Bimmer and Lamborghinis, plus it’s faster. It was the fastest street-legal car in the world for a while, before the McLaren F1 showed up.

  4. I was at Pebble Beach Concours in 1998, walking past the Lodge, and we saw this silver grey car parked sideways. Went and looked at it, it had an Italian plate, with a 60 day permit from U.S. Customs, it was an M12. Very low car, we took a picture, never heard or seen one since.
