now that’s funny

I started reading Dave Barry’s column a few months ago and each week he manages to make me laugh. He is at the top of a very short list of good humor columnists. (I wrote that before I saw that page. How convenient.) I’ve found that it’s not hard to find humor columnists; the hard part is finding ones with the ability to make me laugh.

In addition to laughing, I enjoy making people laugh. I’m still working on that in my writing (let us not speak of the funny bull). By observing how other literary comedians have succeeded, I hope to pick up on a trick or two. A search produced the following list of potentially funny writers.

Joe Lavin
Art Buchwaldart
Sheila Moss
Joe Shockley
Melvin Durai
W Bruce Cameron
Tim Bete

  1. Woo, Dave Barry is hilarious. And I don’t think he’s once mentioned the funny bull, he just instinctively grasps it by its horns! I don’t know how well reading funny stuff works for making one funny (I read funny stuff all the time!), but good luck with your efforts.

  4. Hey, what am I chopped liver and onions? Have you never heard of the world famous, unparalleled, never-before-equaled, never-again-to-be rivaled, soon-to-be-committed Happy Guy? (That’s me, by the way.) Why not sign up for my column (did I mention it’s humorous?) and see what happens when you cross Dave Barry and Zig Ziglar. Sign-up is at:
