Chill out, whatcha yellin’ for?

There’s a song I’ve heard a lot on the radio recently that I wanted to download but I couldn’t think of the words nor who sings it. I began my search with Promo Only’s listings, a radio station’s playlist and some music charts from another local radio station and didn’t find it.

My next attempt was a google of “top radio hits” which led me to the ARC weekly top 40 (this week’s) and Billboard’s Hot 100 (no permanent links that I could find). I had already seen “Complicated” by Mercy Street and the search didn’t find anything so when I saw it in the other lists I thought it was the same one and moved on. When I saw that it was ranked #1 on ARC and #3 on Billboard, it seemed very unlikely that it wouldn’t have a single result, so I tried again using Avril and got zillions of results. A quick listen confirmed that my search was over.

The song is called Complicated, sung by Avril Lavigne. Since I don’t listen to the radio much anymore I may start visiting the ARC and Billboard pages regularly. I like knowing what songs are at the top of the charts.

  1. If only the charts actually had music I liked on them more than very occasionally. I was going to say ‘good music’ instead of ‘music I liked’, but I’m trying to avoid elitism, you know. Alas, having such refined taste is troublesome sometimes. ;)

More seriously, I do occasionally enjoy listening to the top hits on the radio late at night when there aren’t so many commercials. There’s hardly a need to buy any of it, though, because they continue playing the good songs over and over for years, and the current hits several times a day. Ahh, the entertainment media industry, I could rant for pages….

  4. Okay I will,I was just to sleepy when I first read it :P When I was a teenager,I loved listening to the top ten hits. But now,it really is boring to me.I don’t care anymore what is number one.I know a lot of people still like it and it’s all good.As for me,I only count to ten these days and it’s not to rate music..lol
