getaway

I recently heard about a web site for finding last-minute weekend getaways. I rarely plan vacations in advance so this could be useful when I discover I have some time off. I didn’t spend a lot of time on the site but the prices I saw weren’t too bad.

Mmmmm. The Bahamas…

  1. The Bahamas is a long way to go for a weekend. Unless, you’re taking Friday and Monday off, too.

    Mmmm… long weekends.

  2. Great Link. I keep thinking of going to Mexico or the Carribean, so this might come in handy. Hey, I could go there for my upcoming honeymoon; I just need one thing.

  3. Dan, you theif.

There is one problem with this site. The short getaways are exactly that. Short getaways. If you fly into London, you have about a day and a half before you’re trying to catch your flight out.

  4. They have week-long getaways too, it’s just that you have 14 days to make plans for them. In other words they also offer a long getaway with a short amount of planning.

  5. Cameron, are you planning a 2 weeks or less engagement once you find a bride?

  6. Cameron, hon. Don’t plan the honeymoon before you find the girl. It’ll hurt too much when you’ve planned for the Bahamas and she wants to ski.

  7. Actually, I figure if I plan a vacation for 2 weeks, that’ll give me a week to find a bride, a week’s long of engagement, and a plane ride back for the honeymoon.

Ok, that might be a little optimistic. Though no one here is involved, this is somewhat of an inside joke between my brother and I. When I had been off my mission just a little bit, I got a pretty good deal on a cruise, that was good for 3 years. I bought it thinking for sure I would be married in three years. I mean, anyone who’s older than 24 and not married would be a total loser, right? Well, the fact that I’m 27 and counting, reveals the fact that I haven’t found her yet. I actually got my money back for the deal, but my brother has never left the thing alone.

  8. Cameron, you’re not making me feel any better about the 28th birthday I have this week. Thanks loads. :P

  9. Why not spain? You can plan a vacations in Ibiza if you can have 10-15 days to visit Spain and taste its night :)

  10. Spain would be nice.

Jan, I’m sorry. If it makes you feel any better, that’s not how I felt back when I was freshly returned (about being a loser). I just figured I’d be married in 3 years. What I’ve since realized is that it’s not a contest and for some people it takes patience, waiting for the right person to come along. In my case, I make an effort, but other than that, there’s not much else I can do but wait. Since many of us are still single, you’re in good company Jan.

  11. I will soon be hitting the 28 mark myself.
Sometimes I fret a little that I am coming into oldmaidom. But then I think, someday, when I am changing really nasty diapers, I will look back and remember that I have been all over the world, have a degree, and done a lot (if not all) of the things I have wanted. There are a lot of benefits to marrying late in life.

  12. Try spending the last minute vacation at home and reading something from Bahamas vacation book review instead. :)
