marriage may tame geniuses

Satoshi Kanazawa, a psychologist at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, says marriage may tame geniuses.

Creative genius and crime express themselves early in men but both are turned off almost like a tap if a man gets married and has children, a study says.

The data remarkably concur with the brutal observation made by Albert Einstein, who wrote in 1942: “A person who has not made his great contribution to science before the age of 30 will never do so.”

  1. What this article is really saying is that criminals need really good wives, and creative men should not get married but keep mistresses.

    Hm. Who would have thought…

  2. Albert Einstein was married, but he also had an illegitimate child and later divorced so maybe he’s not an exception but a corroboration of the article.

  3. Dan, is this why you’re not married? You’re afraid of losing your brilliant mind?

  5. This reminds me of something a Russian literature professor told me years ago: “If you want to become a great writer, don’t get married and have children, or you’ll never do it.”
