a little spanish flea

In an old Simpsons episode (The Otto Show) Homer is waiting for Bart and Milhouse in his car and turns on the radio. Spanish Flea is playing and he sings the following lyrics.

There was a little Spanish flea.
A record star he thought he’d be.
He heard of singers like Beatles,
The Chipmunks he’d seen on TV.
Why not a little Spanish flea?

And so he hid inside a dog…

There is an amusing flash movie called Mr. Nice that plays the Spanish Flea song. In this touching masterpiece, a pink blob with eyes, a belly button and a pair of underpants says that he doesn’t have any arms or hands, but that doesn’t stop him from dancing, then asks if you’d like to see him dance. If you choose yes, he girates his lower torso to the melodious song of Spanish Flea.

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass composed the song, making all of this possible. They deserve an award.

  13. yes, Homer Simpson sings it as he is waiting in the car-park for Bart and Milhouse at the Spinal Tap concert, this cracks me up. There is a riot going on at the same time and Homer is totally oblivious to it.

  17. I believe that the theme to the Dating Game/Newlywed Game was “Tijuana Taxi,” also by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, not “Little Spanish Flea.”

  30. Spanish Flea Lyrics

There was a little Spanish Flea
A record star he thought he’d be
He heard of singers like Beatles
The Chipmunks he’d seen on TV
Why not a little Spanish Flea?

    And so he hid
    Inside a doggie from Madrid
    He arrived in the city
    Still singin his sweet harmony
As proud as any Flea could be

    He walked around
As if he owned the town
    Humming his pint sized melody
With his guitar he knew he’d be a star
And in his own hometown, how proud he’d be

Then all at once he met a man
Who said, “I’ll help you if I can”
He listened close to his song
And then he sang right along for you see
He loved that little Spanish Flea

    (missing verse, lol)

There was a little spanish flea
and it could count from 1 to 3
and thats all i can remember
    From days of September,
    Poor me!
There was a little Spanish Flea

  31. Um…it takes FIVE SECONDS to comment on something. How does it make someone any more a loser than any other form of conversation?

  32. on the same episode as the Spanish Flea, when they first flash to homer in the car, he is humming a different song…something like” da da-da, da da-da, da da da da-da…. what song is that?????

    Habia una mosquita muy bella
    Queria llegar a ser estrella
    Estaba viendo a los Beatles
    Estaba viendo a los Queen
    En la tele
    Y yo queria ser asi
