speaking of segway

Wired had an article about the segway and I was surprised to discover that Segway headquarters are located in Manchester, New Hampshire. What was even more surprising is that Chris Johnson, who has two segways, lives in Exeter, New Hampshire. You see, I lived in Exeter for 10 years and will be returning in a little over a week to visit my family for the holidays. I’ll be flying to the Manchester Airport.

I may be making a special trip to Johnson’s company, Certified Parts Warehouse, to see if I can finagle a test drive on a segway. It would also be fun to visit Segway’s corporate headquarters.

  1. The Post office has even used the Segway in trials which were very positive. so look out for that in the future

  2. I assume it would be a supplement to their normal vehicles because of the limited cargo space. Also, what about stairs and other obstacles? Is the Segway light enough to carry, especially if you have a large bag of mail with you?

  3. They keep it in the mail vehicle and bring it to extend how fast they can get from house to house instead of walking. I hear it saved over 1/2 an hour in some cases.

  4. Wow, that’s more time saved than I would have guessed. I really need to try one out.

  6. I never did visit, but when I was at the Salt Lake Auto Expo I saw one in person. Didn’t get to ride one but seeing it in action was cool enough.
