A fake Harry Potter book was released which “sees Harry transformed into a fat, hairy dwarf and stripped of his magical powers.” I’m sure J.K. Rowling will be upset if the real book isn’t as successful, but she’s got some real competition from what I can see. A quote from the book (which made me laugh) exemplifies what she has to go up against.
He lies in the high-quality china bathtub, keeps wiping his face, and thinks about Dali’s face, which is as fat as the bottom of Aunt Penny.
After having the image of a “fat, hairy dwarf” in my mind, I’d definitely go see the movie.
I don’t think that I would go and see that movie.I’m to much of a fan of Harry Potter and so are my kids.
I’m a fan as well, in fact I just saw the first movie over again and have read all the books. I just think the movie would be hilarious.
I just might see if it does ever come this way ;)
It is totally rude and barbaric to think of Harry Potter like that especially because I am a HUGE fan and a fellow Brit.

My Dear Fellow Potterphiles,
I am sure by now that you have all of heard of the fake Chinese HP novels, but how many of you have actually seen one, let alone have one in your collection?
On a recent trip to southern China, I decided to find out for my self what all the fuss is about. The official copies were available, but I was impressed by neither their quality nor their translation, but especially not their price. Each volume costs as much as six times the price of most other books here and the cover art is very disappointing. Book five was launched just a few days ago, but it seems that only the large state owned bookstores are carrying the official copies. Already I have seen unofficial copies out on the street for a third of the official price.
The other thing that has surprised me is the general lack of interest in HP. Even in the big, multi-story book cities, HP is tucked away at the back along with Goosebumps and LOTRs. I have been trying to find somebody that has actually read it but it is difficult. I think that is partly because the cultural background of HP does not translate well into Chinese. Magic here is linked to martial artists and holy men, not witches and wizards.
Searching out the fakes has been a real adventure and very eye-opening. The police and other officials have cleaned out all the state owned bookstores (publishing is one of the most heavily government-controlled industries), so that only the over priced originals are left there. This meant heading out to all the small bookstores that are more often like rental shops, due to the low salaries of most Chinese people. Even around the big universities, the number of bookstores was very disappointing, with DVD stores outnumbering bookstores four or five to one. I tried the biggest book wholesale market in the province, but again with little success. Only a small percentage carried even the official versions.
Generally speaking (and I say this as a writer published on the Chinese mainland) once any book is successful, and by this I mean selling more than ten thousand copies, unofficial copies inevitably start to appear. Mostly this is due to the inefficiency of the publishing houses and their sorry distribution chains. The largest publisher in Shanghai until very recently had not one person in the company working on PR or promotion. Only when they got involved in a joint venture with educational publisher Pearson did they begin this strange western practice. This is how antiquated these dinosaurs still are.
Most new books are what we would call vanity books, based on the amount of connections (known here as ‘guanxi’) of the author, rather than the contents of the book. I myself have had royalty offers as low as 0.2 percent, which is not very rewarding when the cover price of most books is often less than the equivalent of one US dollar. Of course, when books are copied unofficially (which is usually very regularly – most universities have their own printing facilities with which they churn out thousands of copies of imported textbooks) few authors have the clout or the backing to do anything about it. Usually, only government censors are able to wield this power; writers themselves are ordinarily quite helpless. This is of course is very different if you are richer than the Queen of England, and have an army of corporate leeches, sorry lawyers to do all your dirty work.
Anyway, back to HP. I have found a number of obscure and interesting titles, my favourite being “HP and the Ci Wa Wa (the porcelain doll).” This is one of the earlier fakes and is now very difficult to obtain. Yesterday I saw a Hong Kong anime inspired edition called “HP and Yelia”, with lots of strange looking cross-cultural pictures of Harry. I even found a Chinese language copy of “Parry Hotter and the Seamier Side of Magic”.
I stocked up on a few copies each for any other hardcore HP collectors out there, who are looking for something unusual and unique to add to their collections. I have a brief but interesting price list available, so please email me if you would like to have a look.

I recently bought Harry Potter and the Ci Wa Wa. It was readily and openly available in the largest bookstore here in Haikou (Hainan). It involves Harry going to China to seek his nemesis there, who has, of course, already been sought out by Voldemort. (Have only got to Chapter 4).
Does anyone know where there are actual copies of the parodies online?

Has at least ten fakes as well as the originals and they’re free to download…The chinese fake isnt there however, but the others are pretty good from what ive read…
well the fake ones are there and I admit some are pretty good. And thanks to all who pblish e-books on the web for those of us who don’t have access to the real thing.
Well the fake ones are sort of which good makes you wonder why the authors don’t try something of their own instead of borrowing someone elses ideas.
well al of them are not good, only some. The descriptions are not always as good as rowling’s and the plots are hilaroiusly weak in some.
Actually,most of these things aren’t illegal. They can be found on the internet as fan fictions. If the author doesn’t gain money and disclaimes himself from the ownership of these characters. Its just like, he only owns the plot….butt not the characters, and he can’t get money out of it. This way, its not a fake harry potter, just an alternate plotline.

actually, the chinese version of harry potter books 1-5 is the same, but the story they made for harry potter book6 is very different from the original one. i forgot the website because our It in our office just downloaded that adobe format file.

I read the false version of harry potter book-5.some highlights of it are-
1)ginny and draco become lovers.
2)draco helps harry to put his own father in the azkaban.
3)harry is the prefect.
4)hermione and harry have secret love affair.
5)wormtail kills harry’s cousin.
6)draco becomes harry’ friend.
7)harry becomes animagus and chooses to be a golden griffin( a lion with wings)
8)harry comes to know that snape was his mother’s boyfriend.
I was shocked to read the real story later on.But this fake story was better than the real one.

I have been trying to find the copy of the Order of the Phoenix, where Harry and Friends are chasing after this Black Phoenix.. It was a very good read, better story line than the actual real book. I just finished reading the hp series and also I read the fake book 5 with harry becoming a prefect and dates Hermione. I really liked this book, while I did notice a few inconsistency (even though those might have been because I just didn’t pay enough attention). Does anyone know where I could begin searching for the another addition by this author, or if there is even one?
