moving to moveable type

This may be the last time I make an entry with my home-grown posting solution that I could call lovable type. I’m now using Movable Type. I wrote a PHP script that converted my old format to the import format MT requires. It would have been really simple, except the MT parser didn’t allow a space after the BODY: identifier so it was crapping out. The only other issue I had was that I was only exporting the first entry in each file because I had put the statement to print to file outside of the loop. Once I fixed that problem, MT was able to import all 269 entries. I didn’t know I’d made so many.

I still need to work on the templates to get them to play nicely with PHP, but that should be quite simple. Once that’s done, I will have to get the archives working properly and figure out what I’m going to do about the old archive links. I’m going to have to do something to avoid causing linkrot.

I had my hair cut yesterday and I’ve decided to try out a new style. I’m leaving it long on the top and shorter on the sides. I tried to let the sides grow out too but they were turning into wings. The hairdresser predicted that I could grow a white afro, which confirmed my decision to make it short on the sides. If I had to pick one thing to never have, a white afro would be a prime candidate.

A few months ago I signed up for a site survey with Sisna. It consists of sending an installer to the location and verifying that they can provide wireless internet access. They were supposed to call me within the week, but I never heard back from them. A month went by and I called to figure out what the status was. They told me that they couldn’t install it because I didn’t have line of sight to any of their antennas. I wondered when they had been planning to tell me those results, since I had to call to find out, but just assumed they were incompetent and never expected to
hear from them again. Much to my surprise, I received an email today, only 3 months after I had initially called. Here is the text of the email:
