My wireless router was using channel 6, the default channel. Here is a benchmark of my connection. It’s not bad, but keep reading.

I ran InSSIDer to see what was in my area. This is an example of what I saw (it’s not my actual results)

There was nothing on channel 1, so I switched to that in order to get the least interference. Without doing anything else, I reran the benchmark and got this result.

Not bad for a 30 second change.

As an aside, the connection drops occasionally too. I’m hoping it was due to the interference and will be resolved by this change, but I’ll have to wait to verify that. It wasn’t a regular occurrence.
