How to make your home cozy
I’m the last person you’d want to decorate your home. I don’t know what to put where to make a room look pleasing and inviting. However, I consider myself a decent judge of aesthetics, so even though I don’t know how to do it, I can tell between my decorating job and that of someone who knows what they’re doing. I have to admit I used to group interior design with recreation management in college – both were a lazy way to finish college with a degree that was of questionable value. Then I saw the inside of an apartment where an interior design major lived. It had the exact same layout as our apartment, but it looked 20 times better, so I began to reconsider my assessment of the value of their skills.
That’s the preface to this set of tips to make your home more cozy. It’s your castle, you might as well make it pleasant.
Note: The reason for the long preface is that I had to explain myself. If I had just said, “Hey, here’s how to make your house more cozy” you would have thought the blog had been taken over by an 85-year-old woman who knits her own undergarments and spends her days making Martha Stewart decorations out of used toilet paper rolls and macaroni.
I’ve struggled now for a year and a half designing my house and then decorating it. It’s still not “cozy” but I think it’s all turned out pretty nice in a minimalist fashion. I’ve had numerous girls compliment things and I’m slowly improving things. Just last night, when I asked a girl if the accent pillows I picked out Saturday for my sofas “worked,” she let out an instantaneous “Oooh, yeah.” That made me happy :)
Nice work. The mere fact that you have accent pillows means you’re light years ahead of me.
I think I must be doing well with my decorating as I have 8 of the 10 cozy suggestions in my place.
I imagine Katie is doing 100% of the decorating. When you first got married, she turned your bachelor pad upside down and made it look much better.
But you’ve got a woman in the house!
Mel: Nice work! You are correct. I just sit idly by and watch as the decorating takes place.
Cameron: True, very true.
