inflammable

Most of you already know this, but the word of the day on the 7th was inflammable, which means flammable, and they explained how that came to be. After all, insane means not sane, invalid means not valid, why can’t inflammable mean not flammable?

It’s like someone saying they could care less. If you could care less, that means you have some level of care otherwise it couldn’t be reduced. It should really be “I couldn’t care less” but when all is said and done, the key is that people can understand what you’re saying.

  1. I’ll still say flammable irregardless.

brrr…I hate that word “irregardless”. Its “acceptable”, but it just rubs me wrong. I thought it went well here, though :^)

And speaking of common mis-sayings…here’s one of my own (least) favorites:

“I’m typing my PIN number into the ATM machine.”

    Bah!

  2. That reminds me of another entry I wrote. In fact, I mentioned caring less there too.

  3. By golly, I totally ripped off your entry! :^) I plead ignorance. I’ve only been hanging around here for a couple of months. :^D

  4. Not to worry. As my grandma used to say, “Great minds think alike.”

  5. Grandma still says that … she’s still alive. ;)

  6. Indeed, I realized that it might sound like she’s not alive. I haven’t heard her say that in a long time, therefore, she used to say that, but as far as I know, she doesn’t say it anymore.
