run don’t walk
“Moderate exercise such as half an hour of brisk walking five times a week is unlikely to prevent an early death from heart disease, say researchers.”

It’s still better for you than no exercise! :)
And much easier on the knees.
Be careful of getting too caught up in the latest thing. Scientists are proving and disproving each other all the time, so the latest thing is not always the most correct thing. We need some personal sense of what is true, and what works for us. The truth, I think, lies somewhere between the two extremes people like to lay out, in an effort to get our attention.
Hey, they don’t even mention cycling. I plan to fill the summer with lots of cycling and hiking, which ought to be enough to ward off that heart disease stuff, if anything can. Living is risky business these days, at the rate research is going you never know what’s going to be good or bad from you a week from now. ;)
well I think an hour is better than a half hour myself. a half hour and you are barely warmed up. nothing like a nice hour swim to get your heart in shape.
Do they call you whaleman because you’re always swimming, then? I agree, swimming is certainly good exercise. If I had a pool as convenient as my bicycle is, I’d probably do it more often. I know I enjoyed it as much as I did any exercise as a kid on the swim team.
I get lots of exercise on my bike. I have to push this little button to start it and shifting with my left foot, clutching with my left hand, braking with my right hand and right foot, I’m beat after the ordeal.
It’s true that walking is certainly not bad for you, but this study dealt specifically with those who were afflicted with heart disease and walking did not appear to help. I plan to begin running to keep in shape, although Rick’s exercise sounds like the most fun.
so I take it you did not sell the bike and are planning on a lot of summer twisties in the canyons.
I no longer have the motorcycle. I was just saying that riding one would be fun.
Mmmmm, canyon twisties. I was driving in Big Cottonwood Canyon just last weekend with the top down and the heater on. It’s exercise for the soul, I tell you! ;)
