gone is the humor

We have an epidemic on our hands. I just browsed through eatonweb’s humor category and found almost nothing that made me laugh. Most of the sites gave the impression that they were trying to be funny but I think they were trying too hard. It makes me wonder if my efforts at writing humor have give a similar impression. I can’t guarantee side-splittage, but I think it’s about time I took the funny bull by the horns and busted out some good ol’ fashioned humor. I’ll get started tomorrow though, because right now, I’m going to sleep.

  1. The funny bull? Dude, you must be tired. Anyway, although I didn’t look at too many of those links (I want to get to bed at a decent hour tonight too) I found some of it mildly amusing.

Maybe it helps that I’m listening to the Pixies. It’s hard to not be amused while listening to the Pixies. I mean, they’re called the Pixies. Their singer is a fat dude. He can’t sing, and they can’t play their instruments. Yet they do so anyway, and they have a song called ‘Caribou’. That’s just funny.

  2. Umm, Levi, I think you were both a little tardy in receiving rest. Why else would you listen to a group that can’t sing or play music?

  3. Having heard some of the music that Levi listens to, I’ve come to the conclusion that talent and musical ability aren’t factors. Except maybe that milkman song, it kind of grows on you.

  4. Regarding my comments about the Pixies — when I say they can’t sing or play their instruments, I mean they don’t do so with a great deal of technical skill. What they do have is a lot of energy and a knack for writing catchy songs. They were one of the most influential indie rock bands of the 80’s, paving the way for the likes of Nirvana. Listen to ‘Monkey Gone to Heaven’ sometime and tell me if it’s not running through your head for the rest of the day.

And Dan, I’m glad you’re finally coming to appreciate the charm of the Milkman song. And don’t forget that there’s more to music than the technical execution of it, and more valid reasons to write music than just to have a pleasant pop song.

So, that was totally unfunny and way off topic, but I have to stand up for the virtues of indie music in this age of pop media oppression! Help, help, I’m being repressed!

  5. well Dan I find some of the humor interesting. You do seem to have a talent for finding the “interesting” stories. I would even compare some of it to the Darwin Awards now those are funny!

  6. Hmm. So much for that funny bull thing and grabbing it by its horns, eh? I guess I’ll just have to wait another day for my laughs.
