Beware the Inventor

Futility Closet posted a great quote from a Boston newspaper in 1865 declaring a guy trying to sell telephones a criminal.

This was especially interesting to me as I’m currently reading How to License Your Million Dollar Idea where he discusses the process of licensing your new inventions. I read in another book that a pioneer in the use of radio waves to transmit information was sent to a mental institution by well-meaning family members.

I wonder if we as a society have gotten any better at accepting new inventions.
