Track Government Spending In Your Underwear

It’s not a strict requirement to be in your skivvies while browsing USASpending.gov but it provided a catchy headline, no?

Have you ever wanted to know what the government is spending your money on? Ever wondered where federal contracting dollars and grant awards go? Wonder no more.

USASpending.gov was created to comply with the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006. It required a publicly accessible, free website where the following information was available.

1. The name of the entity receiving the award;
2. The amount of the award;
3. Information on the award including transaction type, funding agency, etc;
4. The location of the entity receiving the award;
5. A unique identifier of the entity receiving the award.

Now you can add up all those national budget Oreo’s for yourself.
