The 63 dollar riddle

Here’s a brain teaser for you (or is it a riddle? I’ve never quite understood the difference).

A man owed $63 and paid the debt without using coins or one dollar bills. There were no online transfers, checks, or any tricky business. He paid exactly $63 without getting any change back.

How did he do it?

  1. 4x $2 bills
    1x $5 bill
    1x $10 bill

  3. Nice job Rick. The answer I heard was a $50, a $5 and 4 $2 bills, but yours does the same thing.

Chris - Bonus points for a creative solution :)

  4. I like Chris’ answer better than mine, I rarely think outside the box.

  6. Jesse: Either Rick’s solution works, or a $50, $5 and 4 $2 bills.
