Your article about hotel rooms does not surprise me. My daughter had a friend that worked for a hotel chain and she had told us, several years ago that they were told by their supervisor to wash the drinking glasses and coffee cups in the bathroom sink and dry them and put them back.
I only use cups that are disposable to drink from and also bring my own cup to have tea or coffee. Something else I was told by a friend that worked for a prominent hotel chain is that they only wash the comforters on the beds about once a month. I also think it wouldn't hurt to bring your own pillow.
