The secret menus

When I first ate at In-N-Out I ordered a cheeseburger, as advertised on their menu. In-N-Out has the sparsest menu of all the burger places I know of. I never expected there to be a hidden one because they have plenty of room to fit other items. When I bit into my burger, I coiled back in distaste at a large raw onion and wondered what the big deal was with In-N-Out. Then I was told you’re supposed to order it animal style. Who knew?

I still don’t know why that isn’t the standard burger, because it tastes far better. Perhaps the In and Out really represent who’s “in” on the secret menu and who’s “out”.

But they’re not the only place with secret menu items. The consumerist has created the really big guide to secret menu items, which has places like Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Subway, Chipotle, Jamba Juice and several others.

Go see what you’ve been missing.
