Car Tipping

There’s a new car on the market, known as the Mitsubishi I, and it is a truly hideous beast. If, as their marketing states, it embodies someone’s self-expression, I don’t want to meet them.

That reminded me of the car tipping fiasco with the Smart Car, where a smart car enthusiast posted about how his car had been tipped over by some neighborhood kids on a forum (the thread has since been taken down because lots of visitors thought it was funny and began making fun of the forum members). I must admit, it’s pretty hilarious to talk about, especially when you see pictures of the car tipped over, looking so helpless (and because it’s such a silly-looking vehicle to begin with). However, if it were my car, I would be infuriated, so I don’t blame the forum guys for being upset over it. They had a right to be.

My car tipping search led me to yet another humorous forum post where a guy asked, “Im thinkin bout buying a used car that will probably need quite a bit of work done to it, and I dont want just use jacks. Ive heard that there are ways to tip a car on its side so that you have easy acess to the bottom of it. Can anyone explain how this is done or link me to somewhere that shows you how to do this?”

The responses are quite entertaining (although it turns out there are devices out there that allow you to do it)

“Unless the cars a piece of junk already I wouldn’t even consider it, cause if it`s not it soon will be after you roll it over!”

“tipping a car on its side to service under it is not very safe…”

“Some of you all seem like perfect candidates for some Darwin awards ”

“If you actually want to tip your car onto its side to service it instead of buying a jack/stands/creeper…. you probably shouldn’t even own a car let alone work on one.”

“You do NOT want 1800+lbs. falling on you. I’ve lowered a car on my foot. can you imagine the whole car?”

“omg!!! don`t do that!!!! talk about unsafe!!! that`s about the most moronic thing I`ve seen!”

They even provided an illustration.
