Here’s a review I submitted to Utah Citysearch on the Thai Delight Cafe.
I heard about Thai Delight from a friend and after eating there, I wished I’d tried it sooner. The food was delicious and the family that owns it are friendly and accommodating. I’ve returned multiple times and each time the food has been stellar.
Their yellow curry is good and not spicy (I’m not fond of spicy food). The Panang is exquisite and has turned into one of my favorite dishes. The sweet and sour chicken was okay, but not as tasty as some. The rice is sticky and the chicken is tender and moist, as it should be. The veggies are flavorful too. If I had to change anything, I would want the potatoes in the yellow curry a bit softer.
The prices are around $6-$8 and the helpings are quite large enough that it’s a challenge to finish.
I don’t usually post restaurant reviews, but I was perturbed by the flippant review given by donunder, because Thai Delight has excellent food and I don’t want people to get the wrong impression from the review. There were only two reviews, one good and the other bad, so people could think it’s a fifty-fifty toss-up. I cringe at the idea of the cynical review hurting the family-owned business.
The intentional misspellings of newspapers and various misspellings in the review help to reduce its credibility, but I wanted to make sure people know just how good that place is.
I’m not the only one who likes it. My wife, Jason and his wife (they go there at least once a month), another Jason and his wife and Levi and his wife (and his wife?) all like it.
A group of us at work went there for lunch once and everyone loved it and even Nancy Hobbs, restaurant reviewer for the Salt Lake Tribune, wrote a glowing review. An assistant professor who frequently dines there with his wife said they, “get one new [Thai] dish each time [they] go, and the chef does not appear to have a weakness in her menu.”
In short, if you’re looking for a new restaurant to try, Thai Delight is sure to please.
