things you never knew existed

Here’s a nostalgic tidbit from my childhood. As a kid, I spent more money on items from the Johnson Smith catalog than any other single expense I can think of.

Most of the items aren’t all that appealing to me now, but I can remember wanting to buy something from nearly every page in their thick, colorful little catalog. I used to love getting a new catalog and dreaming about owning the crazy things they carried. Also, since I was too young to have a credit card or checks, I sent plain old cash and always got my merchandise, so in addition to carrying cool things, they were honest.

I tried to buy a $15 blow dart gun at another place with cash, but I never heard from them again. It’s possible someone in the post office snagged it, but I never bought anything from them again.
