filtered underpants

My daily desk calendar described a rather humorous yet potentially useful invention. It’s called Under-Ease.

Here’s the explanation they provided.

Colorado inventor Buck Weimer has released underpants that contain a powerful charcoal filter to remove the unpleasant smell of intestinal gas. Weimer invented the garment for his wife, who suffers from a gastrointestinal disorder called Crohn’s disease. The undies, sold under the brand name Under-Ease, are made from airtight fabric and contain an exit hole fitted with a removable filter made of charcoal and Australian sheep’s wool. Price: $24.95 a pair. The filters need to be changed every two to three months, “depending on the amount and strength of the gas being released.” Does Under-Ease take care of the unpleasant sounds associated with intestinal gas? “No,” says Weimer, “this is not a muffler.”

I only found one mention of the invention online, so apparently people didn’t see the value in reducing the foul odor of a trouser trumpet.
