new search engines

I’ve noticed a recent surge in new search engines, but who can blame them? They’ve seen how successful Google has been and want a piece of the pie. Not only are new ones cropping up, but existing search engines are trying to add new features, like RSS feeds on MSN or Yahoo’s desktop search.

I’m in favor of change though, because the competition will bring about advances in search technologies that everyone will benefit from. Here are a few new search engines (at least to me) that may be the next big thing.

Vivisimo (via /.)
Clusty (Connected somehow with Vivisimo)
Exalead
GigaBlast (They’ve indexed over 1 billion pages)
Kanoodle (I like the name)
FindForward (An uber search engine)
Blabble
Snap
Ice Rocket (They got some funding from Mark Cuban, the billionaire Blog Maverick)
