I received some spam recently that frustrated me. It wasn’t offensive or crude and I wasn’t fooled by it, but it made me upset because I knew it would work and some people would end up losing their money to the scammer. I tried to think of a way to stop the guy and came up with the idea of sending an enormous deluge of spam to the e-mail address provided in the e-mail so he wouldn’t be able to find the legitimate (if you can call them that) e-mails from people thinking they had won a lottery they hadn’t even entered, in Switzerland no less. (And out of all the categories, why the 2nd?)
The problem is that an e-mail address you want to protect from spam invariably gets pummeled with the stuff but an e-mail address that you want to get spammed does not get spammed as easily as you might think. I couldn’t think of a fast and easy way to get a whole lot of spam to go to an e-mail address.
I’ve included the text of the e-mail below. Isn’t it odd that it’s signed David Tim, yet the e-mail address to contact is firstname.lastname@example.org.
You’ll note the e-mail is not from Switzerland and it’s not from David Tim and with all the money they have, so much that they’re giving it to people who didn’t even know they were eligible, why can’t they afford to get an e-mail address at their own domain instead of using a free e-mail provider?
On with the letter.
