more gmail invites

When I began offering Gmail invitations I wanted to share them with everyone and gave them out to whoever wanted one. Then some people acted like they had a right to an invite (hey, that rhymes), demanding I give them one via multiple comments, e-mails and request from my contact page. (I have since deleted the comments).

To those people: I got the idea that you wanted an invitation after the first request. Making yourself a nuisance is not a good way to convince me to spend a few hours (with no compensation) giving invitations out to complete strangers.

I have several more invitations to give out, but have decided that I’m going to do it differently this time. Anyone who is a regular reader of my site or on my notification list gets first dibs. Send in your first and last name and e-mail address and I will promptly send out an invitation. Please use it within a day or two. I would rather send them to people who are interested and excited about getting a Gmail account. If you’re only casually interested and won’t bother to use the invitation for several days, please wait until it’s open to the public.

If you’re not a regular reader but are a friendly, polite person who is really interested in using Gmail, use the contact form to send me a request with an explanation of why you want it and I’ll look at those on a case by case basis send you one.

Also, please be aware that Yahoo Mail will send the invites to the Bulk folder, and in some cases Hotmail has bounced them entirely. I will send you a separate e-mail apart from the invitation telling you that I’ve sent the invitation, so if you get that e-mail and no invitation, let me know and I’ll send you the link directly.

Finally, to those who got invites and were appreciative, you’re very welcome, I’m glad I could help. Enjoy using Gmail!

P.S. If you currently use hotmail, which I’ve heard has a 2MB limit, you deserve to have more space. Send in (via the contact form) a short summary of why you want Gmail and if it’s reasonable, I’ll send you an invitation. No one should have to use e-mail with a 2MB limit.

Update: There are still more regular invites, but here are several that were sent out last week and never used.

Update: They’re all used up.

Update: Google has banned Gmail sales.

make way for ducklings

I recently exchanged e-mails with William Bragg and wanted to share some photos on his blog titled, A remarkably sad set of images.

He posted a follow-up to the images, although it is clearly not the same grate. One can only hope that something similar occurred with the wee ducklings in the first set.
