After Google’s announcement of free online e-mail with 1000MB quota, Yahoo is offering 100MB for their free users and virtually unlimited storage for paid accounts.
I wonder what gave them that idea? (Even though it’s still 10 times less than GMail)
(via jeremy)
Update: If you’re having problems using Yahoo Mail, try using a browser other than Internet Explorer. Two good options are Firefox and Opera. Also, if you think you may have spyware on your machine, click here.

Still it is way better than the 6 MB they’ve limited me to the last 3 or 4 years or so. This is good nes indeed. I love competition.
» Comment by Steve on May 15, 2004 @ 2:47 pmSteve: That’s true, users will get 25 times more space, and they have GMail to thank.
» Comment by dan on May 15, 2004 @ 2:54 pmAren’t market forces grand? I can now procrastinate a bit longer about cleaning out my four or so Yahoo email accounts. Thanks Google!

» Comment by dan on June 14, 2004 @ 7:13 amI am a loyal customer of Yahoo! Today morning June 15, they automatically upgrade my free account upto 100MB storage, 10MB mail attachments… Thanks, God! Thanks, Yahoo! You’re the best!
» Comment by Nguyen Thanh Thien on June 15, 2004 @ 3:16 amYou all can register for a completely free account at http://www.spymac.com with 1000MB (1GB) and more. Hope you enjoy it!
I GOT 100MB! TWICE!
I maintain 2 Yahoo mail accounts. The first one opened in 1997, and second circa 2001.
And THEY BOTH GOT UPGRADED! THANK YOU YAHOO MAIL!!!
Psst.. Are you going to upgrade your Briefcase function as well?
hahah greedy
» Comment by ron on June 15, 2004 @ 5:38 amWow, you guys are right. I got 100MB upgrade on all my Yahoo accounts, but their servers seem to be having some troubles right now. Maybe they’re being bombarded by users checking to see if they got the 100MB too.
» Comment by dan on June 15, 2004 @ 6:44 amYup, I got 100 mb, and the interface is very pretty, with the new search button.
» Comment by Indranil on June 15, 2004 @ 12:48 pmi think the Yahoo!Mail server is having big problems right now - i can’t get into any of my accounts - NONE of them! as i’m expecting important news soon, via email, this is a real nuissance. i just Yahoo! will actually say what’s going on & try to fix the problem soon! i’d rather have a 6mb system that works, than 100mb of free space but no way to use it! thanks but no thanks Yahoo!.
» Comment by Michael Whaley on June 15, 2004 @ 7:49 pmSince Yahoo upgraded and also changed their format, I have NOT been able to delete one message in my inbox! I also cannot send a message, reply to a message, or move a message from one box to another! I CAN empty my bulk mail. Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas how to fix it? All my other email accounts are still working fine and I haven’t made any changes in my internet options or settings.
Diana
» Comment by Diana on June 16, 2004 @ 6:32 amDiana: Their servers are having problems right now, and I doubt there’s anything you can do. I’m guessing that the problems will be resolved in a day or two.
» Comment by dan on June 16, 2004 @ 7:22 amI’m likewise not able to get into my main Yahoo Mail account, so the 100 Mb sounds nice, but this is already teaching me not to put too much faith in a free service, particularly one with such a poor record of resolving problems. I wouldn’t want 100 Mb of messages I need access to completely inaccessible to me.
Apparently, there is something about my main Yahoo account that doesn’t like the upgrade. I can access Yahoo Mail with a backup account. I then log off that account, log into my main account and all I get is a blank screen. I can go to Yahoo Groups and edit my main account, but I cannot get into email. The fact that I can get into and out of a Yahoo Mail account without a problem, but have trouble with a different account, indicates that the trouble is out of my control.
» Comment by Richard Reynolds on June 16, 2004 @ 3:50 pmI think they’re having growing pains, but if it’s any consolation, I’ve been able to get to all five of my Yahoo Mail accounts and they all have the 100MB quota.
I rarely had problems with them before, and I would expect that this outage in service they’ll be able to fix things to be as stable as before.
Certainly not a reason to give up on them, in my mind at least.
» Comment by dan on June 16, 2004 @ 3:56 pmIt’s great that Yahoo are offering the upgrade, however,so far it’s been pretty useless as I have not been able to access my email for 4 days now! It wouldn’t be quite so frustrating if Yahoo put up a message explaining that there were major problems with access and that they are working on a fix - instead there’s absolutely nothing about it on the site from them, which just makes people more angry. I know the upgrade seems to have caused big problems for many people, and I can accept that, it is free after all and has always been pretty good before, but surely it’s good business practice to keep people informed, it would also save them from being inundated with fault reporting forms, oh I forgot, it doesn’t matter how many fault forms they get, they don’t answer them anyway do they?
» Comment by Juliana on June 18, 2004 @ 2:38 amvery odd. One yahoo i.d upgraded to 100 mb while 2 others stuck on 6 mb.
» Comment by Qwater on June 18, 2004 @ 2:56 amI wouldn’t worry, they should all be upgraded eventually.
» Comment by dan on June 18, 2004 @ 7:05 amsince the upgrade, i can open and read emails, but i can’t reply, send or delete emails. this is really frustrating because yahoo mail is my main source of communicating for business and personal use. it makes me think twice about using yahoo altogether. if yahoo wants to keep us as customers, they should fix whatever the problems are ASAP, and report the statis on whats going on and how long its gonna take for everything to clear up. (communication people!!) at first i thought it was just my computer with a bug. thank god i didn’t get upset and throw my computer out my window because i came across this website and realized i wasn’t alone. come on yahoo, i’d rather have no storage, then extra storage with no access. i know i’m not the only person in this world that feels this way!!
on another note, it is nice that they are upgrading the storage space.
» Comment by ali on June 18, 2004 @ 12:24 pmresponding with juliana’s comment. i did make a report when i first learned of the problem. they did respond about 48 hours later with a computerized email, stating that they are aware of the problem due to the upgrading. they didn’t say anything else.

» Comment by P. D. on June 18, 2004 @ 9:36 pmThis is frustrating. I can logon to yahoo and edit my profile but cannot get past the ad screen (boasting larger storage)to my e-mail.
Another day of more frustration…
I am facing the same problem as P.D. is facing. And despite two emails to Yahoo customer service, they have not responded to a single one. It’s extremely annoying and frustrating. It has been days since the problem came up and they have not fixed it yet.
» Comment by waqar on June 19, 2004 @ 2:07 amI too cannot access my e-mail for hours now after I sent there a couple of large e-mail files (1MB+). Funny enough, my wife is able to acess her e-mail acount. But she cannot use reply command or delete for tha matter!!!
It seems to me this was a premature and very poorly planned enhancement for Yahoo!!! Thinking of shorting Yahoo stock …
» Comment by pete on June 19, 2004 @ 6:18 amI was wondering why my yahoo account is still stuck at 4 mb when everybody else seems to be enjoying 100 mb?
» Comment by guard on June 19, 2004 @ 10:04 amI haven’t been able to open my yahoo mail since the upgrade. I’d rather have my 6mb back I never exceeded the limit. Any one else experiencing the same? I have a Mac G3. Help!!!!
» Comment by Rachel on June 19, 2004 @ 3:04 pmRachel: When you say you haven’t been able to open Yahoo Mail, what do you mean? Do you get an error message when you try to login, or do you just not see anything? It may be that the changes they’ve made to the web interface aren’t supported by the browser you’re trying to use.
It may help to try another browser just to be sure it’s them and not something on your end.
» Comment by dan on June 19, 2004 @ 4:25 pmThe server problems are still not sorted ? Its been 4 days since i’ve managed to open my Yahoo mail. Everytime i try to log in it says - The page cannot be displayed. And this is only for one of my accounts - my other account is working just fine ! How is that ?
» Comment by Garry on June 19, 2004 @ 6:23 pmSince Yahoo Mail made the upgrade a couple of days ago, I have not been able to get into my Yahoo Mail account via cable connection. Interestingly, I can get in via modem and a dial-up connection. I tried clearing cache and cookies, and concluded that there are some bugs in the upgraded free e-mail service that Yahoo is trying to work out.
» Comment by Mike on June 19, 2004 @ 8:47 pmMy Yahoo mail was fine–until today. I haven’t been able to get on all day. It stalls at contacting the Yahoo mail server. Sometimes it just hangs forever and sometimes I get the “This document contains no data” message. I’m also having trouble getting to other areas of Yahoo, especially the game Literati and sports.yahoo.com. I cleared cache, cookies, etc, but it didn’t help.
» Comment by Lisa on June 19, 2004 @ 8:57 pmI can see how many messages there are in my mailbox, but cannot access it. When I tried to load it, I get the cannot be displayed error. I’m glad to see it wasn’t just me cause I was flipping out.
» Comment by NeoBodyguard on June 19, 2004 @ 11:27 pm6 days now without any email access! I think that they actually tried to send me a reply to my fault report yesterday, but despite the fact that I asked for the reply to be sent to my standby msn email address, yeah, you guessed it, they sent it to my Yahoo mail address, which of course, like most of you, I can’t access! FRUSTRATING doesn’t come close! Thanks Ali for sharing the reply you recieved.
» Comment by Juliana on June 20, 2004 @ 5:04 amI guess we’ve all become way too reliant on these things, for some of us it’s become almost an essential part of our daily communication - it’s amazing how irritated you can get when it all screws up isn’t it? I can’t see why they don’t just add a page to their site to explain the difficulties and to keep people up to date, it’d be way better than the information blackout stance that they seem to be taking.
Kafka would have loved this one. Reading your responses have made me feel alittle less frustrated by all of this. I have cable hookup, and haven’t been able to get onto my Yahoo mail site for four days. I get no response when I hit my mail icon or I get a ‘this page cannot be displayed’. I agree with those that have said that Yahoo should at least let it’s customers know the scoop about this troublesome upgrade. This may work to wean me off the internet. It’s about time I read “The Castle”.
» Comment by denny on June 20, 2004 @ 2:56 pmHas anyone found a solution to not being able to delete e-mails? My delete, check messages, spam and mark keys aren’t functioning in the new version.
I tried a different computer and they worked fine, so maybe it is my computer, but it seems there are many people having this problem. Any further thoughts? Thanks.
» Comment by Wags on June 20, 2004 @ 11:34 pmA thought — I was also having a lot of trouble with my Yahoo account, which I had bookmarked, but when I typed it in new — mail.yahoo.com, things worked, so just a thought that might help.
» Comment by David on June 20, 2004 @ 11:53 pmAnother funny thing - in my previous post i wrote that i cant access my mails for 4 days. Today i tried from Office and it went right through - no problems at all ! I called my wife and asked her to try again from home - and she still has the same - “The page cannot be displayed” problem ! I have 2 accounts - both opening from office but only one opening from home ! How is that for more confusion ?
» Comment by garry on June 21, 2004 @ 4:37 amThank you to the person who posted that email can be accessed by dial-up - I always keep a free dial-up account on my computer as back-up and indeed I could access my email that has been unavailable through cable modem for a couple of days. I hope they fix this soon!
» Comment by Rochelle on June 21, 2004 @ 6:58 amI am SOOOO GLAD I came across this site! About the same time Yahoo upgraded their email services I installed Norton Firewall on my computer. I thought it was the firewall causing the inaccessibility problems, and also wondered if there was a bug on my system. I have five Yahoo email accounts for various things, and as of this AM still could not access any of them.
One thing’s for sure is the lack of communication from Yahoo is pathetic. Like another poster stated, Yahoo should put an anouncement on their main page indicating that there are problems, and that they’re working on a solution.
That comcast paid email account is looking very welcoming right now.
» Comment by John H on June 21, 2004 @ 7:12 amI have the same problem with yahoo mail. I can access it fine from my work computer, but when I try at home I get the DNS error/page cannot be found. One thing that did work was I deleted my internet cache, deleted all cookies and my internet history and rebooted. I was able to access my mail, read and delete messages, but could not send any messages. But, I could not log back in again, I had to clear the cache, cookies and reboot again and I was able to log back in.
» Comment by DJ on June 21, 2004 @ 8:11 amI’m ectatic that I found this site. The first couple of days after the upgrade I was able to access my 3 email accounts sporatically, and for the last 4 days not at all on 2 of them, but the one I use the least goes right in. I also have no problems whatsoever accessing all 3 from a friends house. Since there is nothing out there from Yahoo! letting us know that they are having problems, I emailed them about it, they asked for an alternate email address, but sent the reply to the addresses I can’t access. I still haven’t figured out the logic behind that one.
Shouldn’t they have done a test run with the letters A-D, just to make sure it works 100% before jumping right in with the millions of emails they have? Just a thought.
» Comment by BC on June 21, 2004 @ 9:23 amAfter the 7th day of no email access, for a few minutes I managed to get into my inbox. Couldn’t read any messages, but at least I could see the names of the people who’d sent me messages and could contact them using an alternative email address to tell them not to send stuff to my Yahoo address.
» Comment by Juliana on June 21, 2004 @ 9:31 amSadly, it was a brief encounter and it’s now returned to it’s former state, where all I get is a page full of symbols yet again.
Hopefully, the fact that I got a glimpse of my inbox means that they are starting to make progress on a fix. But I won’t be counting on it!
Wow, thanks to everyone, I thought I got hacked into and was about to loose my control of yahoo (as if one ever has control over yahoo. I feel better now and have learned that my office computer is a good back up, but then I can not stay on it for hours at a time to talk.
If it is a comcast/yahoo intergrade problem I think comcast customers should be put back on the smaller email mbs till they get it fixed.
Rather have less mbs and be able to pull up profiles and even get into my email. Tired of seeing LYCOS don’t recognize the site.
As for blame, I blame neither comcast nor yahoo, because maybe yahoo didn’t think to test out the new equipment programs with companies they serve.
» Comment by Phil Calabrese on June 21, 2004 @ 9:37 amI don’t think it’s a case of blaming anyone, I think people have just become infuriated that there is nothing official from Yahoo on their site explaining the problems. If they had put up a page explaining what’s going on and keeping people informed, it would help a whole lot. Not much to ask I don’t think, instead, we have all had to find out for ourselves and have by luck stumbled upon this fine website to find the answer, pretty poor Customer Care wouldn’t you say?
» Comment by Juliana on June 21, 2004 @ 10:06 amThey also sent me replies regarding the fault to the email address that I can’t access, despite asking them to send it to a different address, so that just adds to the frustration.
I read that they were also reinstating dormant accounts that hadn’t been used in years and are applying the upgrade to those at the same time as active accounts, which seems completely crazy to me. Surely it would have been better to upgrade the accounts of existing customers first, then worry about long since unused accounts, that may or may not be used ever again.
This is strange cos i cant access it from my dailup at home but can from the ISDN at work! That’s the opposite of what some people here are saying. Another thing to ponder about is that i can enter yahoo groups with that ID and i can use the Messenger also with that ID - but i cant access the emails! I’ve tried entering through various points - through Messenger, through the My Yahoo page but nothing. My Yahoo page says that i got new email but if i click on it - Page cannot be displayed error msg!!
» Comment by garry on June 21, 2004 @ 2:47 pmIs it possible to mark all messages in a yahoo account & “transfer” them to another yahoo account?
» Comment by Sandy on June 21, 2004 @ 3:52 pmI found out something from another website that may help if you go to http://www.admuncher.com and download the Ad Muncher - bingo! It seems to do the job. I haven’t been able to access mail for 7 days, but as soon as I downloaded the muncher it worked perfectly and everything is now fine with my email access and all the features seem to work! I think it’s only free for 30 days but at least it’s a start! I have informed Yahoo faults department of this, so hopefully it may help to resolve the problems. No one knows why it works, but it does, so give it a go and Good Luck!
» Comment by Juliana on June 21, 2004 @ 4:22 pmNot that I know of.
» Comment by dan on June 21, 2004 @ 4:37 pmOk, I tried the ad muncher. Didn’t do a thing for me. Still can’t delete messages. I can access my mail. I use the good ol’ fashioned dial up modem to access the http://www. Sent an e-mail to yahoo help, but no response. This was days ago. This is very, very frustrating. Any other solutions?
It’s great that they gave us extra space. Definitely need it to hold all the spam I can’t delete!
» Comment by Wags on June 21, 2004 @ 8:25 pmI wish I’d found this site last week…I’ve spent hours trying to find out what was wrong with my computer…bought 2 virus/spyware programs, run dozens of free scans, deleted other programs, and in general spent many hours sitting frustrated in front of my computer trying to fix something that yahoo has to fix! At least now I have a squeaky-clean computer (with not quite as many programs, as I got rid of all that I thought MIGHT be causing the problem)..I agree with others…Some notice from yahoo would have been nice and saved me many hours of trying to fix the unfixable! Once in the past week I’ve been able to look at in my inbox, and did see that yahoo had sent an email about a bug, but then I couldn’t open it to read it before the send error report came up and it was gone. The one time I got to see it, I had 95 unread messages (I usually average 5 a day!)
» Comment by Llana on June 21, 2004 @ 9:57 pmSadly, the ad muncher thing doesn’t seem to work for everyone. When I installed it, I still had a few problems deleting stuff, but I kept going in and out of the inbox and bulk mail box (I found with the bulk mail I could only delete one or two messages at a time) and it did work after a few attempts. I know that Comcast are having problems resolving issues between them and Yahoo, so if anyone is with Comcast, this could be the problem. They say they are working on a fix, but don’t know how long it will take - one lady was told 3-4 working days. As far as I’m concerned the Ad Muncher is only a temporary fix anyway, as it’s only free for 30 days and I don’t see why I should pay some other company just so that I can access my own free email, but after a whole week with no access I was just relieved to be able to access my email by whatever means I could. I am going to refer Yahoo to this website and also http://www.mooreds.com. It took a few days for Yahoo customer services to get back to me about the problem, they say they have an engineer working on the problem, but not a lot else. The address I have for the customer care is uk-mail@yahoo-inc.com, I realise that most of you are probably in the US, but it may be worth trying to badger them as at least you don’t get an automated reply and they will realise that there are several issues that need to be fixed asap!
» Comment by Juliana on June 22, 2004 @ 1:49 amI’d Like to say that the offer of Gmail is too atractive, but, the only idea of ads in my mail, put in my mind a lot of things to think, because i hate the merchadising ads in my mail, and always, in all my accounts of free e-mail, i have to erase all the porn messages that i don’t have required, so if google is too sure about all his algorythms and all his team of programmers, the main test will be that they don’t allowd to pass this messages, because in other way, they will have to assume all the responsability of the unsolicited mails, and all the service crash surely because of this.
Thanks.. Remy©

» Comment by Anonymous on June 24, 2004 @ 9:18 pmThere is a way around the Yahoo ‘reply’ button not working. Copy the email and hit ‘compose’ and then paste it in there…can’t find a solution to the damn delete buttton though…
» Comment by Thrawn on June 24, 2004 @ 9:43 pmI had the problem with deleting mail from the yahoo account after the 100M upgrade. Cannot use the checkbox and then click delete — it just sits there when you click delete. This is using IE 6. Used Mozilla Firefox and it worked fine. So I guess it’s a setting in IE that I haven’t figured out yet. Tried allowing all cookies from yahoo, enable scripting, enable pop-ups (using google toolbar), but haven’t figured it out yet.
» Comment by Mike on June 24, 2004 @ 10:17 pmIt really sucks not being able to delete all the messages I dont want since i get too much spam.
» Comment by Pablo Hernández on June 25, 2004 @ 12:35 amYes I do like the GUI improvements plus the big additional space. But when you are opening a big mail and suddenly you feel like deleting the mail halfway, Yahoo! won’t response. This is very annoying especially when you are on dial-up. Do you guys experience the same?
» Comment by cq on June 25, 2004 @ 1:54 amSince Yahoo upgraded email storage, accessing email has been a pain in the posterior. Whats the point of having more storage when you cannot access your email. Yahoo bit more than they can chew.
» Comment by yahoo user on June 25, 2004 @ 7:22 amGlad I found this page-I thought there was a problem with my computer but since the upgrade I can read e-mail but I can not compose/respond or delete the mail—very frustrating but I am glad to hear that others are having the same problem–this has been for about 2 weeks now however and yahoo really needs to check into and fix the problem ASAP.
» Comment by Heather on June 25, 2004 @ 10:07 amI thought it was my computer until I found this website. I’m having a problem picking up ALL email attachments. Not to mention my computer locking up everytime I turn around. It’s getting ridiculous. I to had just bought updated virus program and installed it and it didn’t help. I’m paying for DSL and I’ve given up trying to do anything online anymore. I hope Yahoo does something about this soon.
» Comment by Denise on June 25, 2004 @ 10:12 amSame problems here with sending or deleting emails from Yahoo. Whats up Doc?
» Comment by Ron on June 25, 2004 @ 11:38 amSince the Yahoo Upgrade I also have problems with sending, deleting, and replying to emails. All i can do is read. I have sent Yahoo Customer Care 4 emails and have gotten replies. They all say the same thing ….we are working on it. Here is the interesting thing - I can access my Yahoo Email from work and are able to perform all the functions with no problems. At home I have cable modem and cannot access……????? Interesing, huh?
» Comment by Angela on June 25, 2004 @ 4:15 pmI have 2 comps. One is Win 98 and one is Win 95. I’m not sure if this has been since the upgrade or even before, but ONLY on my Win 98 comp, for a period of at least 3 days or more, I can’t delete or even move any mail messages. I can only empty Bulk and Trash by clicking the ‘empty’ buttons. Sometimes I can delete a mail message by clicking on ‘Spam’ (when it’s not spam). THEN…I’ll log off of my Win 98, logon to my other Win 95 comp and it works PERFECTLY! I can move, delete, etc! So if it’s problems on your end, why does it always work on my Win 95 comp, yet this unique problem only exists when I use my Win 98 comp? (I have excellent Antivirus protection). Help! Thanks.
» Comment by shipper on June 25, 2004 @ 4:26 pmIt’s been a week now since I have been able to delete, reply to or otherwise use yahoo mail. Has anyone found a solution to fixing the buttons that don’t respond?
» Comment by Julie on June 26, 2004 @ 2:58 pmIn order to reply to mail, save the original message as text - the button down the bottom that does work, then compose a new letter and paste the text in.
I’d like to be able to delete all the mail I’m finished with, 6mb was quite large enough for me!
Well, add another that can’t delete or send since the upgrade. At least I know it’s not my computer. I have windows 98 SE and use a cable modem. I tried their response but nothing works- at least the computer from work does fine.
» Comment by Tony on June 27, 2004 @ 7:22 amI can’t reply, send, or delete Yahoo mail either! I’m glad to know that it’s not just us. I too thought it was a unique problem with our computer. It’s weird though because my husband says it works fine at his work. I’ve sent a couple help requests to yahoo customer care, so if I hear anything I’ll try to post another comment here.

» Comment by Anitha.k on June 27, 2004 @ 11:47 amPlease add me to the list of frustrated yahoo users. I had a premium service, but in an attempt to reach yahoo, I cancelled. All they did was cancel, I can’t delete, send, email, forward, reply. I now have 150 pieces of mail in my inbox. I can only delet bulk if I empty the whole thing. I’m glad to know I’m not alone. Thanks!
» Comment by mim on June 27, 2004 @ 2:12 pmI also cant delete, reply, etc. None of the buttons work. I constantly delete after I read something unless it is important, it is killing me to have to filter through all the spam and already read mail to find something I want to go back to. I usually have no more than 10 emails in my inbox and now its growing daily and up to over 100. The only things I can delete are things in my bulk mail, good thing they arent coming directly to my inbox. I too can go online from my parents house and it works fine though? I really thought it was just my computer with a virus until I found this site. Thanks for making me a little calmer…I just want to delete though!!!
» Comment by Gina on June 27, 2004 @ 4:27 pmHey ….. I have 2 yahoo accounts. 1 opened in 1999 and another one in 2002. But only the 99′ yahoo account got upgraded to 100 MB. Other one is still stuck with 6MB. Anyway! we all know Yahoo is the best. 100 MB much more better than just 6 MB. Atleast i dont have to delete mails to maintain 6MB.
» Comment by Amit Badrayani on June 27, 2004 @ 11:17 pmin regards to Yahoo, try downloading and using Netscape to access your yahoo account. It worked for me.
» Comment by Tim on June 28, 2004 @ 9:40 amWhy I can’t delete my messages from my inbox. After deleting them, they should be in Trash.
I’ve got too many messages and need to delete them.
Thank you
» Comment by Dolly sithar on June 28, 2004 @ 1:13 pmThank you so much Tim. The Netscape download solved all of my problems (for now!). There’s going to be a mad rush to the Netscape website now that the news is out. Get there fast!
» Comment by Russell H on June 28, 2004 @ 5:31 pmI am having similar problems! Since the Yahoo upgrade I can not delete, send, reply to email !! I also use this for work and school! I need a solution asap! Any ideas? Thanks!
» Comment by daryl on June 29, 2004 @ 8:23 amI cannot delete my mail in the in box or in the sent box. It keeps growing and growing. Here it is the end of June and it doesn’t work. I’m expecting an important note from someone too. I’d gladly pay if it meant it’d work. But after this experience I don’t know….
» Comment by writingstories2002 on June 29, 2004 @ 11:56 amAlong with the rest of the people, I also have problems with the Yahoo upgrades. It was fine on Sat. June 19. I got up Mon. morning to check my email and what a mess. I can access okay but that is it. I can’t send, use the multiple addressee function, reply or forward. I can delete. Yahoo should have warned us that they were about to undergo a major upgrade and that possible problems may occurr. I also think they should let people know the status of the problem and the expected resolution date. Additionally, I believe that their customer service was the thing that needed upgrading! How vulnerable they must be to have rushed into this upon learning of the Google intention to grant its users the larger mailbox capacities. Perhaps our complaints would get more attention if they could be made somehow to impact the Yahoo investor!
» Comment by Diane Perkins on June 29, 2004 @ 12:52 pmHey,
man this is annoying, i think they should go back to the way the email was before the upgrade as it was less trouble lol..
but ever since yahoo upgraded (dont know if it is cause by it or what) but i cant log into my hotmail account ither.. or my amazon.com account.
i dont know if this will help you guys out or not but i found one way that allows me to check my emails.
run a regestry cleaner / spy bot and pest patrol to remove all crap from your computer then log in (with out restart) to the net and try loggin into your email accounts, i found that after doing this i can log into the email accounts and stuff no worries..
as i said above since yahoo upgraded i havent been able to log into yahoo mail, hotmail, or my amaozn.com account, yest after doing the above i can.. strange but see if it works.

» Comment by Sherri on June 30, 2004 @ 2:03 pmIm having the same problem, im getting this message “Yahoo! may not be optimized for the web browser you are using” and i cant check my emails. I noticed that when i go to Yahoo.com the search engine area looks like the one that shows when ur using Internet Explorer on mac, but when i use AOL it looks like the orginal one and i can check my emails… Whatta hell is goin on?
» Comment by Josh on June 30, 2004 @ 5:36 pmI noticed the same problems mentioned above when I access my Yahoo from the Office computer/network. However, I can do everything just fine from home. At home I have dial-up and Windows ME. At work I have XP and high-speed.
» Comment by Pat on July 1, 2004 @ 7:19 amStill no fixes yet…
I am running XP and have had the same problems with the new Yahoo upgrade as everyone else - I can read but not send or delete. I found if I switched to Netscape (instead of IE) then I could send, delete and move emails. Oddly enough I have a 98 machine also and it works fine with IE and Yahoo (with the excpetion of occasionally having to logout and back in to delete files).
» Comment by Tim on July 1, 2004 @ 8:30 amWith Win XP and IE6 i can read mail and delete it from the delete button if the email is open, but not from the inbox and I still can’t send. Maybe they are making progress?
PS Netscape still works.
» Comment by Tim on July 1, 2004 @ 10:16 amI’m running IE 5.2.3, Mac OSX, everything worked fine on Yahoo-mail, addressbook, calendar before the “New” yahoo mail. Now, finally my mail works okay, but the address book is a mess-doesn’t load properly-graphics all over the place and in calendar, if freezes the browser…every-time! I’d think by now, a couple weeks into this “new” yahoo, it’s be fixed. No reply from Yahoo.

Similar problems like everyone else.
Can’t send, delete or reply using IE6 with XP and Win 98 on two separate computers. Also have an Apple powerbook using Safari and no problem with that.
On the Win98 machine I use Megaproxy for security purposes and if you don’t allow Java as a browising preference then Yahoo mail switches to the older version and from there all functions seem to work fine.
All in all a real pain, and that Yahoo keeps everyone in the dark about this is terrible. I mean that is inexcusable.
» Comment by Gary on July 2, 2004 @ 9:23 amHi, — I am one of the people who cannot login to my Yahoo email since the upgrade. When I click on the mail icon all I get is a page that says:
“The page cannot be displayed.
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings”
plus a page full of other technical info that is meaningless. This is a major pain in the ass and expensive also as I have had to phone many of my contacts. I know it’s free but c’mon guys get it fixed will ya — go out for a beer later!
» Comment by Peter on July 3, 2004 @ 4:23 pmI really wish I would’ve found this website last week—-before I paid a technician to come out and spent hours and hours of total frustration. I, too, cannot delete, compose or reply. I have no trouble getting into the inbox. I don’t feel that I have received the respect that I deserve in this matter. I cannot believe that Yahoo doesn’t feel a responsibility in making their customers aware of the problem, and then keeping patrons up to date on the progress. I feel that we all are owed an apology. I also feel that all of the money we have spent on virus software and techs and the like should be refunded. Things would’ve been so much simpler if they would have just let us know.

Hi fellow Yahoo Sufferers:
I’ve been monitoring this blob for a week or so. I’ve had the same problem: inability to send/delete from Yahoo mail. I’ve been able to fix the problem by downloading a new browser. I got Mozilla (free). I couldn’t download Netscape. I think the problem may be security related. We recently got a new firewall, and I think this may be blocking.
Good luck to all.

For your information,I am still having only 4mb but I am not having any problems.I wonder why not all Yahoo free email users are given the same amount of storage. Some have several accounts and are all upgraded whereas I have only one but not upgraded. Can Yahoo help?

I have a customer’s computer that is having this problem. I created a new account, overlaid xp and ran all updates. it still would not work on this machine. The problem looks like a internet explorer plugin for yahoo mail or active x plugin that is corrupt. It is totally an internet explorer issue.
» Comment by Daniel on July 6, 2004 @ 12:26 pmI also had the same problem with Yahoo… Cannot send mails but can receive/read/delete/with 100MB on all three accounts. I tried using SBC Yahoo’s own browser, and that does not work either.
Tonight, I downloaded Netscape and everything works fine. I also tried to send Yahoo mails from work and it works fine as well. It seems there is something funny about work related ISP as both at home/work are using IE 6, and I had not changed any settings after the 100MB mailbox upgrade.
I just don’t like to use Netscape - I think it is the Netscape graphic/icon that I don’t like… I know Yahoo’s staff are working hard as I also got a reply from them around 24 hrs. No one likes to prolong these customer frustruction - Let’s hope that we can have the Yahoo! mail back and running smoothly!
» Comment by Frankie on July 7, 2004 @ 1:43 amFound a quick fix from another site..
Please try this mobile Yahoo site…
mobile.yahoo.com/mail
It works fine for me - but the graphic still not good enough.. (At least we are a loyal fan of Yahoo Mail and IE.)
» Comment by Frankie on July 7, 2004 @ 1:52 amI’m having the same problem accessing one of my 3 yahoo mail accounts. I try to log in and I get the message Temporary Problem Accessing Your Mailbox. Hopefully, yahoo will be able to fix their problem soon. I tried deleting cookies and also 4 different browsers(IE, Opera, Netscape and Mozilla) to no avail. In essence, I suppose it will make me less reliable on email in the future. Which may be a good thing.
» Comment by Angie on July 7, 2004 @ 9:46 pmWell, it is now almost 3 weeks since I have had trouble with Yahoo. I have been with them almost from the beginning and was grandfathered in at free 6.0MB of email space. I got upgrated to 100.0MB automatically and have had problems ever since 6/20/19/04. I think I am receiving my mail okay but don’t know for sure. I can access, read and print off my mail but I can’t reply, or forward either to an individual or by using the mutltiple addressee function. Once in awhile I can send but mostly not. I have written to Yahoo almost daily and all I ever get is a auto response that they are checking into the problem and if I continue to have the problem to contact them again (hence the mutltiple letters sent). I am not real computer literate so all the stuff I have been reading about changing from IE to NS and checking cookies et al just leaves me frozen not knowing what to do. Does anyone out there have any idea if Yahoo is making progress on this mess? Yahoo is a great program that is user friendly but I am getting terribly frustrated because I have a lot of genealogy stuff out at different sites and can’t readily change my email addy. Eight years worth of work.
» Comment by Diane Perkins on July 8, 2004 @ 8:16 pmComments anyone. I would leave an email addy but don’t know if that is allowed here.
Diane (old and getting older by the minute)
Does anybody have a phone number for Yahoo? Could you please post it. Maybe if we all called… and the lines got busy…sorry but it’s frustrating. I can’t find a # anywhere to call and like you all I can’t send mail, etc. Tried sending to all their help lines and haven’t received even one of their famous form letters! Yes I am on dial-up and Win 98. It’s the best I can do. Lost everything I had in recent fire. New to computers. Any idea how I can keep from getting disconnected up to 20 times an hour? Blocked call waiting on phone, but heard there was a way to on PC…I know nobodys calling me late at night. Thanks
» Comment by Rev. Smith on July 9, 2004 @ 4:15 amCan any one tell me , the 100MB upgradation is automatically done by Yahoo, or the user can do some formalities to go upgrade!

I WENT TO http://WWW.MOZILLA.ORG AND DOWNLOADED their browser and went to http://www.yahoo.com and was able to read, COMPOSE FORWARD, etc… While I’m waiting for a response from YAHOO to resolve this problem, I could at least have some control over my mail… best wishes to all…..
» Comment by Steve in Saint Paul on July 11, 2004 @ 11:59 pmIt seems like I now have functionality back with my various Yahoo accounts. No problems sending, deleting, etc. Was having problems for about 2-3 weeks.
Yahoo has not responded back besides the initial one saying they know they have a problem.
Seems like others still have problems. Is it possible that whatever happened at Yahoo is quite embarrassing, therefore they are not saying anything about this and that the fix requires something on the order of going into indivudal accounts to clean up, hence the delay and hit and miss results on people getting problems resolved?
» Comment by Gary on July 12, 2004 @ 5:16 pmI, too, have emailed yahoo a few times concerning not being able to open my email. I thought that something was wrong with my computer. They have not responded to my emails. That is the least they can do.

» Comment by Amy on July 13, 2004 @ 5:54 pmYAHOO DSL/SBC help line 877 722 3755
I was unable to get on yahoo, for a while, but did have email access. Then able to get on yahoo and internet but unable to get on my email. Then able to get into email, but was only getting about a tenth of my emails. One day all my email was deleted without my help.. Since the 16th of June I have been unable to compose or send email. I cannot delete unless I open the email. At first for a week I was unable to delete at all. Yahoo is without any ethics because they have not been cooperative or forthcoming about this issue and allowed customers to struggle in the dark to resolve this issue. They should have notified everyone at once.
I was told first by Yahoo technician that there was a problem with my computer and to call my manufacturer around June 16. My Manufacturer, Gateway, told me I had two viruses. They had me zero out my computer and reload everything, With Windows ME, it was described to me by Gateway technician as an arduous process. That was an understatement. I changed my firewall from Norton to McAfee. I bought two spyware programs. Two weeks later Yahoo admitted my problems were their problem and not my software but their software. All that time spent with technicians from Yahoo, from Gateway, and from Norton who did not have a clue what was wrong.
The only honest one in the bunch was McAfee - after I bought their firewall and when I was still having problems with something in their firewall they admitted that sometimes that happens and they do not know why. Gateway, Yahoo, and Norton just blame each other and send you back and forth endlessly.
Yahoo now admits they have no idea how long it will take to fix the problem.
» Comment by linda on July 13, 2004 @ 9:21 pmThanks for this website. I have similar problems (send, delete, etc.) on my xp computer with explorer 6.0. My win 98 notebook with IE. 5.0 works fine.
I updated my virus software which was good for Symantec, but it did nothing for me.
Hard to believe that Yahoo are taking so long to get to the solution and are able to keep it so quiet. This has caused me considerable aggravation as email is important to business, has taken my time, wasted ISP’s time. Sounds like Microsoft IE 6 may be somewhere in the problem.
We need to pass this site to the consumer advocates on TV, news.
» Comment by Anonymous on July 14, 2004 @ 10:48 amRegarding the cannot delete/move posts in Yahoo!Mail.
As you may know it’s a big problem everywhere for which currently Yahoo have no visble public admission of a problem
After several attempts to contact Yahoo via their help forms (which didn’t work because until I changed my IE6 hosts file and ad blocker - the help pages have “add” in their URL!) and at least 2 posts to Yahoo!Mail. I finally got replies.
They told me that they are aware of the problem - that was over 1 month ago!

» Comment by nobody on July 14, 2004 @ 6:05 pmYippy!!!! Yahoo is once more running well. After weeks of frustrations, I wrote an email to a computer newspaper columnist. He wrote me back that the culprit for me was more than likely Internet Explorer as their Hotmail is a major Yahoo competitor. It seems they have done this before and that some of us using the later and most recent XP versions results in the common problems of forwarding, sending, replying etc. I changed my browser from Internet Explorer to Netscape and Yahoo is running just like it use to. Hope this helps someone else out there.

» Comment by James Vaughn on July 17, 2004 @ 4:54 pmHas anyone noticed a change in the default font color setting since Yahoo! Mail made their big change on June 15th? I have Mail Plus, and have noticed subtle changes. I can only send and receive mail in black font,(but when I’m composing email - the font color is blue) I have to constantly use the Yahoo Mail toolbar to change font color to dark blue (this was the default color). The folks at Yahoo keep passing it off as a browser issue…not so…it’s a Yahoo issue. Totally frustrated
» Comment by Audrey on July 21, 2004 @ 12:00 amI had same problem where the mail buttons stopped working. It happened after I ran SpyBot S&D.
Try removing any/all yahoo java objects from the browser under tools/internet options/settings/view files (delete them all)
Then go to tools/internet options/settings/view objects/remove them all
Then go to tools/internet options/advanced/check [Enable install on demand (Internet Explorer)] and also select [Enable install on demand (Other)]. This will hopefully reload any yahoo plugin that was missing or corrupted. The file may be missing or corrupt if you recently ran a Spyware removal tool like Adaware or Spybot S&D.

» Comment by Nice on August 8, 2004 @ 10:49 amIam so glad I found this site. I change my password to see if that would get me on.(NOT). So yahoo gave me this long ass password to use. So now I need to change that. I also cannot get into my e-mail,but I did find away we all can read our mail and delete mail. If you can access mobile web on your cell phone, you will be able to read your mail, but will not be-able to link on to other webs, well I can’t, not with my type of phone. (you will need to contact your provider and used your e-mail and password).
» Comment by simone on August 8, 2004 @ 11:26 pmGreat page, atleast I don’t think I’m crazy anymore. I’ve tried everything, even tech support and still no help.
My problem is when after I enter my password and press enter, all the browsers seem to download a page in application/octet-stream. It a white page full of characters only and nothing else.
I’ve tried these broswers-IE6, Opera, Netscape and firefox.
I was able to open my mailbox via- mobile.yahoo.com/mail. Thanks for the tip.
It works at my friends house (she’s on dial-up),
interesting. But can’t get it to work on 4 other PC’s all on cable!!!. All other yahoo emails work fine.
Anyways I’ve concluded that yahoo has been a fantastic service for me (7 years or so) never had a problem and that’s why I didn’t believe they might just have a problem.
All the best peole and if anyone does find something, please post.

This ouures on my desk top, laptop,(In two different cities) and my PDA.

I’t September 15th and now email I can’t get to my inbox….I can get to my Addresses and calendor, and notes….Also yahoo instant messenger still works and my hardly used account works ….but my main one is not working at ALL! They keep asking me when it started to occur. I have replied twice on that. They also tell me to delete cookies in a certain order and install IE 6 Sp1. and try other browswers. I’ve tried those multiple times and they still don’t help.
» Comment by indyman on September 15, 2004 @ 1:37 pmI’m also in a bind with Yahoo!
I’m able to see the mail I received and who had sent it, but I can’t get the messages to open. This is day #4 for me and I’m sooooo frustrated because the messages keep stacking up with no way to read them.
I can compose a message, but I can’t open or delete anything. I’ve restored the ‘puter to an earlier date and still no luck.
I don’t have any viruses, etc so is it me or Yahoo that screwed up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any helpful reply!!!!

If anyone is still having problems accessing their Yahoo mail and is getting the page of symbols when trying to check messages the problem can be resolved by using/changing proxy server settings see http://www.helpbytes.co.uk ‘yahoo mail problems’ for instructions and proxy settings list to use.

» Comment by Lacey on October 27, 2004 @ 12:48 amIt is not you. I am having the same exact problem
» Comment by Jenny on October 27, 2004 @ 7:35 pmYahoo appears to have unfairly targeted some people and is sabotaging their attempts to use Yahoo! services. I am led to believe it is because people who are old, or young inexperienced kids make mistake’s when logging in, and over a short period of time, have to re-log in several times. Yahoo! sees these people as dishonest crooks trying to break into /misuse other peoples passwords, and this is the punishment.Yahoo! then targets these unfortunates, and they can no longer access their legitimate mail. A dyslectic kid has been learning on my computer, and after a week of making lot’s of mistake’s (thro no fault of his own) I’ve now been inflicted (read BANNED) form getting my mail. Yahoo! has totally ignored all my requests for help.Old people and dyslectic kid’s are no longer welcome at yahoo!……you make too many mistakes, so piss off and dont come back.
» Comment by Rob on November 1, 2004 @ 3:51 pmI had trouble with getting the error 999 when logging into my email. I took off the new patch that I had downloaded from Microsoft (PS2). That worked! I haven’t had a problem since then. Everything seems to be working faster. I just hope it keeps up.
» Comment by Kim on November 5, 2004 @ 4:26 amI hve been with yahoo for years without any trouble, but for the past 2 days I can’t respond or forward or compose any mail. Only read it, and I am only using 1% of my storage capability. Any clues as to why?
» Comment by christina on November 10, 2004 @ 1:04 pmEveryone, try setting your MTU to 1300. You can download software that allow you to set this, this should take care of your problems.

When is the extra 150MB + 100MB=250 going to take affect for the old yahoo account. i opened a second email account i notice it has 250MB. while my old account still says 100MB on the status. does anyone know anything. “I got 999 Error on Monday Night Also” … What hell is that error but my yahoo service came back up in an hour or so.
» Comment by FrankG on December 1, 2004 @ 2:06 pmThe VP at Yahoo added a comment where he said, “Today we have announced an increase in storage from 100 MB to 250 MB for all free users worldwide. Because we have tens of millions of users around the world, we are rolling out this enhancement on a phased basis. If you don’t see your storage limits increased today, you can expect to see the increase in the coming weeks.”
That was posted on Nov 15th.

» Comment by Beth on December 28, 2004 @ 9:25 amI can not send/reply in my yahoo mail- at home…
But am able to at work.
Home is coming up : error on page
Details showing: AC_selected email is undefined
I have searched other tech support sites- and have attempted their fixes-
with no luck.
Would sure like to hear from Yahoo on this… do they have
any site or support area that explains temporary problems (hoping this is
temporary).. Or fixes?
Or is Yahoo above trying to help the people that use their services?
I would suggest trying the Yahoo Mail customer care page.
» Comment by dan on December 28, 2004 @ 10:48 amOK Folks,
I’ve had the same e-mail problems and have fixed it. It’s not so much Yahoo as it is Internet Explorer. I downloaded Netscape from netscape.com and I now have no further problems. Good Luck!

The #180 post didn’t help at all.
» Comment by ajsmick on January 31, 2005 @ 9:38 ami am ip and have this “send button non functional / AC_selectedEmails is undefined” error in yahoo mail on a certain account only. other yahoo accounts checked from this machine work fine. the only fix we have at the moment is to disable (from manage addons in ie) or remove completely macromedia flash.ocx.
» Comment by s toad on February 1, 2005 @ 12:50 pmthe problem seems to be related to flash and have read somewhere of someone having a friend at yahoo who rectified this probelm from yahoo end as a favour to him.
hope this helps
S
that or use netscape which also works.
just wanted to thank s toad for the advice that the problem may be flash player.
i, too, was getting the ‘AC_selectEmails’ is undefined error and was unable to send any e-mails…uninstall macromedia flash player and VOILA! i can send e-mails now. the only downside is that every website that has flash embedded in it now gives me errors saying that i may not see the whole page because i don’t have flash, but if it means sending e-mails, i don’t care.
if anyone comes up with a solution that does not involve removing flash, please post. in the meantime, i am just happy to be able to send e-mails again.
