favicons from pictures

I never meant to keep the favicon of the little cabin that’s been on my site for so long now, but I’m not very skilled in graphical manipulation, and I never got around to making one of my own, until now. I found a site that has solved all of my favicon-making problems. The site lets you convert any image into a favicon.ico file.

I made one of my face, but I didn’t like seeing my icon face all over the browser, kind of like when you hear your recorded voice and wonder if you really sound that weird. Or maybe that’s just me. Anyway, I’m trying out a little tachometer instead. I’ll give it some time to see if I like it or not.

I also changed the icon on my coin collecting web site from George Washington to a state quarter. I like it more than George, even though it’s kind of hard to tell what it is. I think it’s at least recognizable as a coin, thus conveying the gist of the site, and that’s all I’m after.

Another benefit of creating your own favicons is that you don’t have to worry about other sites using the same icon as you. Why, it makes your icon unique, like a freshly fallen snowflake. Speaking of which, I hear Salt Lake is supposed to get even more unique freshly fallen snowflakes this week. I hope that’s the last of the little buggers.
