late for class? $5 please

Lehi High School (in Utah) has decided to make students pay when they’re late. They’ve been having problems with students roaming the hallways during class, and the money will be used for student activities. Doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me.

  2. I think the money thing is a dumb idea. I don’t think they should bring money into it. Besides, it won’t work on the rich kids.

  4. I hadn’t thought about the rich kids. At least the rest of the students would be able to have fantastic catered parties with all the money.

  7. I don’t like it. I believe it teaches that money can pay off for your mistakes.

  8. But in our society, money is used to pay for mistakes. There are fines for speeding, bail, late fees at the library, on your credit card, mortgage, power and gas bills. There are early-bird specials on conferences so that the people who sign up at the last minute have to pay much more. It’s a fact of life, and I think it’s a valuable lesson for kids to learn early.

  9. Money is important to kids, and I think to teach them discipline, you need to let them relate with something important. Besides, I’m not sure how many rich kids there are at Lehi High.

  10. That’s an interesting concept for sure – I can see it being a policy that won’t last long though! Nice blog you have here!
