flu shots or not

Each year when winter rolls around, people have the opportunity to get a flu shot. Some claim that flu shots cause super viruses and make people deathly ill. Others say it’s a good way to keep from getting the flu during the winter months.

I decided to do some investigation of my own, turning to Google for answers.

My first stop was this guy who claims in large red letters that he avoids flu shots like the plague. His wife got a flu shot and couldn’t get out of bed for more than a few hours for years afterwards and he’s been healthy without them so in his opinion, they should be avoided by everyone.

The second stop was this government web site touting the benefits of flu shots.

I ended at Dr. Andrew Weil, of Yahoo Health. He recommends flu shots for the elderly and children, but not for healthy adults.

I read some other sites as well, and from what I saw, the medical community has confirmed that a flu shot is a safe way to keep from getting sick. Still, it could be a massive conspiracy on the part of the doctors to make a fast buck off the poor, unsuspecting, paranoid public. Then again the people who bring up a single exception to prove everyone else wrong aren’t very convincing. One example doesn’t cut it when compared to years of studies and thousands of examples to the contrary.

In the end, Dr. Weil’s discussion of the subject was the most convincing, so I’ve decided to follow his advice and forego the flu shot this year. Wish me luck.
