back from San Jose

The wedding, luncheon and reception went very well and I had a great time. I stayed with one of my friend’s brothers and he is a remarkable pianist. He can play songs by ear, adding his own improvised embellishments and was a pianist at a fairly high-class restaurant. He provided very entertaining background music for the reception. As I was standing in the line a woman mentioned that she heard a player-piano. I informed her that it was the groom’s brother but she didn’t believe me until I pointed him out.

My first gig as a DJ went well and I managed to have the last song end at the exact minute I was asked to, so if nothing else I was punctual. I almost played another song on top of the one that was playing, but I noticed the volume and avoided a potentially embarrassing moment.

I’m mostly caught up with the latest happenings in the blogosphere and it appears that one of the current fads is the 5-minute IQ test (requires Flash). I got a 136 which netted me an invitation to join their “elite” organization. I have a feeling they’re just trying to make me feel good so I will pay them money. I liken it to a used car salesman telling you how great you look or that silly Who’s Who Among American High School Students. I tend not to believe things people say when they stand to benefit from their compliments. They’re essentially making money from people’s pride, which is not particularly ethical, but it makes cents (bad pun intended).
