early mornin’ to ya

I went to bed rather early last night and as a result woke up at 5am. My cubicle was occupied by 5:45am. I was obviously the first person at work and was able to get quite a bit accomplished before other people started to arrive.

Quick recap of the weekend: I baby-sat a 6-month-old for a married couple so they could watch a movie. He was quite well behaved and is looking quite chubby (he was born a bit premature, so that’s a good thing). I went on a double date (my younger brother was the other guy) and we went miniature golfing, saw “The Singles Ward” and ate at Macaroni Grill. It was a lot of fun.

Sunday I was woken up by a call on my cell from a coworker who was having some difficulties with a cluster install in the Netherlands, so I spent the greater part of Sunday helping him troubleshoot the problem. He called me this morning and told me that it is working now, which is very good news.

I finally got Mozilla 1.0.0 RC1 and it has TrueType fonts enabled. All I had to do was edit mozilla/defaults/pref/unix.js and change the following two lines:

pref("font.FreeType2.enable", true);
pref("font.directory.truetype.1", "/usr/share/fonts/true_type");

I also had to put some True Type fonts in /usr/share/fonts/true_type/. True type fonts are definitely more aesthetically pleasing. So far, nothing else has caught my eye in this release.

Stop and look before you click - After the fiasco with Kazaa we have to keep our wits about us (as well as our reading glasses) so we don’t agree to giving up our firstborn child when downloading a new piece of software.
